Thanks to the donations made by users of tuplús, the loyalty program of Bancos Aval, made within the framework of the Points Education Campaign, developed by Grupo Aval and the ACDI/VOCA LA Foundation, children and young people from Chocó they received digital tablets to continue their studies in the midst of the pandemic.
These tools were delivered at the inauguration of the connectivity space at the Jorge Isaac Rodriguez Martinez School in the El Reposo neighbourhood, located in the northern area of Quibdo, which was adapted with Wi-Fi by the Alliances for Reconciliation Program (PAR) or USAID, ACDI/VOCA and their allies.
In the group of students benefited by the tablets and this new space, there are voices like Edward Cordoba and Kelly Garcia, who betting on education and trusting in the territory are beginning to fulfil their dreams.
Kelly is part of the Innovation Girls group of the Chocó School of Robotics, thanks to this she was invited by NASA to visit their offices in Houston and, together with the school, she has participated in major events such as the Robotics World Cup in China in 2019 and will continue this process with NASA. Postponed due to the pandemic, for this reason she will continue the activities, virtually, thanks to the fact that he will receive one of the donated tablets.
On the other hand, Edward Córdoba is a young man who, thanks to his commitment, was the best ICFES of his class, thus obtaining a scholarship at the Diego Luis Córdoba Technological University of Chocó (UTCH), but due to a lack of stable connectivity and tools, he didn’t have the chance to continue his education.
Thanks to this new space and digital tools, he will resume his scholarship in Teleinformatics Engineering.

The purpose of this place is to strengthen the education and capacities of the youth of Chocó through technological tools, as well as to contribute to creating a safe space that encourages them to trust in education as the way to fulfil their dreams, without having to resort to informality, thus managing to slow down the rates of violence in the department.
”Giving young people tools to access training in virtual time becomes an important opportunity to contribute to the construction of the life project of each of the participants, these actions ultimately have an impact on the reduction of violence and contribute to the security and coexistence in the municipality. We are in a sector where less than 10% of young people who finish high school have access to technical and professional education, this ends up making them easy prey for groups on the margins of the law. This will be an opportunity for rest youth to re-write their story,’’ said Niza Uribe, Chocó’s regional director for USAID’s Alliance for Reconciliation and ACDI/VOCA.
