SocialSea

Within the framework of offshore gas exploration, FAVLA designed and implemented the SocialSea Community Benefit Program for the energy company Shell, which strengthened the resilience skills of six artisanal fishermen associations on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, ensuring that more than 1,000 people have tools to manage their conflicts, practice artisanal fishing more safely, incorporate technology to reduce the level of effort and improve their income.

“We have received the tools and training on the use of technology which helps us carry out our tasks with greater safety and productivity. Now we know how to use them to protect life and improve our income”

José Valdéz, artisanal fisherman.

How we did it

  1. Generation of spaces for participation, communication and agreement with the communities to ensure that the project addresses their needs and expectations for strengthening from a comprehensive approach.
  2. Training in maritime safety, provision of equipment and adoption of new technologies in fishing methods to improve the catch.
  3. Implementation of the Program for Social Change DecidoSer Family, DecidoSer Leader and family and community activation, involving the couples and children of fishermen.
