Within the framework of offshore gas exploration, FAVLA designed and implemented the Mar Social Community Benefit Program for the energy company Shell, que fortaleció las habilidades para la resiliencia de seis asociaciones de pescadores artesanales de la costa Caribe de Colombia, logrando que más 1.000 personas cuenten con herramientas para gestionar sus conflictos, ejerzan el oficio de la pesca artesanal de manera más segura, incorporen tecnología para reducir el nivel de esfuerzo y mejoren sus ingresos.

How we did it

Generation of spaces for participation, communication and agreement with the communities to ensure that the project addresses their needs and expectations for strengthening from a comprehensive approach.
Training in maritime safety, provision of equipment and adoption of new technologies in fishing methods to improve the catch.
Implementation of the Program for Social Change DecidoSer Family, DecidoSer Leader and family and community activation, involving the couples and children of fishermen.

Achievements

Development of skills for the creation of trust facilitating generational change, collaborative work, social cohesion and conflict transformation.
Promotion of skills and competencies to increase the capture capacity and preserve the trade of artisanal fishing in the region.
Improvement of maritime security through the provision of implements and training under international standards.
Installation of solar panels and freezers to optimize the preservation of fishing and increase the productivity of associations.
Organizational strengthening of six associations that today have better management capacity to have a sustainable productive activity.
